Kütahya Dumlupınar University (DPÜ) hosted an important meeting on the production and development of Ottoman tiles. The meeting was held with the support of the Presidential Strategy Budget Directorate, Department of Culture, Arts and Tourism.
The meeting was held at the Martyr Petty Officer Ömer Halisdemir Library in DPÜ Evliya Çelebi Campus. At the event, which was held with the participation of experts in the field, the subject of “Production and Development of 16th Century Ottoman Tiles” was discussed in detail.
DPU Rector Prof. Dr. Süleyman Kızıltoprak, in his speech at the meeting, emphasized the historical and cultural importance of Kütahya and stated that the art of tiles also contributes economically to Turkey. Kızıltoprak stated that, as a university, they have achieved the quality of 16th century tiles and are very happy to pass this art on to future generations.
One of the project advisors, Prof. Dr. Fulya Bayraktar stated that the art of tile making experienced its brightest period in the 16th century and emphasized that achieving this quality today is possible through research and development processes.
Also at the meeting were project advisors Prof. Dr. Sevinç Gok Ipekcioglu, Prof. Dr. Levent Bayraktar and Dr. Lecturer Member İnci Birol also shared her opinions about the technical characteristics of Ottoman tiles and the precautions that need to be protected.
Rector Kızıltoprak presented certificates of appreciation to the project manager and consultants at the end of the meeting. Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, Prof. Dr. Osman Şan and the project team also attended the event and visited the tile exhibition.
