Minister Özhaseki: Green Transformation Has Become Necessary

Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Mehmet Özhaseki made important statements at the award ceremony held in Kocaeli. Minister Özhaseki emphasized that “starting from 2026, everyone selling goods to European Union countries will have to clearly prove the production process.” Stating that green transformation has become an obligation rather than a need, Minister Özhaseki stated that strict inspections will be carried out regarding environmentally friendly production and monitoring of carbon emissions.

Minister Özhaseki emphasized that Turkey is at risk of earthquake and said that it is necessary to be prepared for possible earthquakes around the Marmara region. Referring to the recent earthquakes, Minister Özhaseki stated that the state intervened quickly and thousands of houses were built. Sharing detailed information about the measures taken against earthquake risk, Minister Özhaseki emphasized that the society should be aware of earthquakes.

He also touched upon the importance of environmental policies such as the fight against marine pollution, the eye-bolt buoy project and the transition to the deposit system.

According to Minister Özhaseki’s statements, Turkey releases 20 billion glass bottles and aluminum waste into nature annually. Stating that a transition will be made to the deposit system in order to correct this situation, Minister Özhaseki stated that they will encourage the active participation of citizens in the recycling process. He stated that with the transition to the deposit system, the amount of waste will be reduced and the recycling rate will increase.
