Memur-Sen Tax System Report
Confederation of Civil Servants’ Unions (Memur-Sen) shared its report titled ‘Fair, Reasonable and Sustainable Tax System’ with the public. The report includes solution suggestions on the tax system.
Memur-Sen Confederation introduced the ‘Fair, Reasonable and Sustainable Tax System’ report at the press conference it held. Deputy Chairman Hacı Bayram Tonbul emphasized the importance of justice in taxes and stated that the current tax system creates a center of gravity not based on income but on the whole of society.
Tonbul pointed out that an increase in income may reduce purchasing power and stated that a fair tax system requires an integrated tax policy. The report highlights the goals of tax justice and efficiency with a new tax architecture proposal.
Some of the prominent recommendations in the report are:
- The share of direct taxes should be increased and the share of indirect taxes should be reduced.
- Corporate tax exemptions and amnesties should be terminated.
- Tax loss and evasion must be prevented and informality must be combated.
- SCT and VAT rates on compulsive consumption products should be reviewed.
- Income tax brackets of wage earners should be revised.
