A new one has been added to the dramatic events at sea. In the operation carried out by the Coast Guard teams off the coast of Muğla’s Bodrum district, 57 irregular immigrants were rescued and 36 immigrants were caught. This human smuggling attempt ended the hopes of immigrants trying to go abroad illegally.
Details of the incident
According to the information on the Coast Guard Command’s website, in two separate incidents that occurred at different times off the coast of Bodrum, it was determined that rubber boats drifted due to engine failure and irregular migrants inside called for help. Coast Guard boats were immediately dispatched to the area and teams rescued 57 migrants, including children.
36 irregular immigrants were caught in another rubber boat detected by the Coast Guard Unmanned Aerial Vehicle in the same region. These illegal immigrants, including children, were stopped by the Coast Guard and then brought ashore and handed over to the Provincial Directorate of Immigration Management for necessary procedures.
Results of the Operation
These incidents prevented a greater tragedy thanks to the sensitivity and rapid intervention of the Coast Guard teams. Irregular migrants were prevented from remaining at sea in inhumane conditions and being at risk. The Coast Guard successfully fulfilled an important duty for the security of the country’s borders and the protection of human life.
