Independent Alliance Established
In a joint statement, Jeremy Corbyn and four other MPs in parliament announced that they had established a new parliamentary group, officially named the “Independent Alliance”. This group aims to offer an alternative to the atmosphere of despair that exists in the British Parliament and they state that they aim to be hope in the parliament.
The group will not operate as an official political party. Instead, they plan to increase their influence in parliament by working together against austerity, the social welfare system and arms sales to Israel. In addition to Corbyn, whose candidacy from the Labor Party was blocked in the general elections held on July 4, the group includes MPs Shockat Adam, Ayoub Khan, Adnan Hussain and Iqbal Mohamed.
Thus, the new group called the “Independent Alliance” will have the same number of MPs as the far-right Reform UK party in parliament; Additionally, it will have more members than the Green Party, which has 4 MPs. All five members of the alliance managed to outshine the ruling Labor Party parliamentary candidates in the general elections with their pro-Palestinian stance in areas with a dense Muslim population.
