On June 27, 1980, the McDonnell Douglas DC-9 model Itavia Flight 870, flying from Bologna, Italy to Palermo, with 81 passengers on board, crashed into the Tyrrhenian Sea, killing all passengers. The wreckage of this historic event was meticulously prepared by the Italian fire department Vigili del Fuoco to be exhibited in the Museum of Souvenirs in Bologna.
Vigili del Fuoco identified the location of the wreck in 2006 and transported the wreck to the museum and arranged it for exhibition. The restoration process and exhibition stages of the wreck were carefully recorded and presented to the attention of visitors.
The Itavia Flight 870 wreckage, exhibited at the Museum of Memorabilia in Bologna, is a historical monument and offers visitors an important perspective on aviation history.
