Hasan Alpargun Apartment Case
The third hearing of the Hasan Alpargün Apartment building case, which collapsed in the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes in Adana, was held at Adana 12th High Criminal Court. The case against Hasan Alpargün, the contractor of the apartment building, was postponed until September 27, 2024.
At the hearing, it was decided that Hasan Alpargün’s detention would continue. While the defendant requested his release due to his old age and health problems, the lawyers of the families who lost their loved ones requested that the defendant be punished for “possible intent.”
While the public prosecutor requested that the defendant be punished for “the crime of conscious negligence”, the lawyers of the victim families requested that the defendant be punished for “possible intent”, referring to the expert report prepared by Konya Technical University.
In addition, the lawyers demanded that a criminal complaint be filed against the municipal employees and stated that the municipal officials did not fulfill their supervision duties.
The defendants’ lawyers opposed Hasan Alpargün’s request to be punished for “possible intent” by arguing that the floor of the apartment was solid. The court ruled that Hasan Alpargün’s detention should continue and adjourned the hearing until September 27.
The lawyers of the families who lost their loved ones in the Hasan Alpargün Apartment made a press statement in front of the Adana Courthouse and voiced their demands for justice. The families also wanted the municipality officials to be held accountable and for a fair decision to be made.
Victim lawyers stated that they expect the decision to be made at the next hearing.
