Fire Response Continues Successfully
The forest fire, which occurred yesterday near the village of Kumköy in the Eceabat district of the historical Gallipoli Peninsula, started at 16.05 by spreading from the stubble to the forest. Fire response efforts intensified with helicopters and planes at sunrise. So far, the progress of the flames has stopped.
The Fight Continued Throughout the Night
The fire on the Gallipoli Peninsula has been intervened by land and air for more than 17 hours. As a result of the efforts made by the teams throughout the night to control the fire, the spread of flames was stopped. It was noted as a pleasing development that there was no loss of life.
Areas Affected by Forest Fire
Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı gave information about the affected areas by the fire in his statement. Stating that a total area of 575 hectares was damaged, Minister Yumaklı stated that 340 hectares of this was forest area.
Combat Supported by Air Power
Minister Yumaklı announced that the fight, which continued throughout the night, was supported by air power in the morning. The first response, which started with 9 planes, 6 helicopters, 94 water trucks and 540 personnel, continued with 970 personnel throughout the night. It was stated that the fire was not completely under control due to the strong wind, but its progress was stopped.
