The fire, which broke out in the grassland at the intersection of Silivri and Büyükçekmece districts, was successfully extinguished by air and land intervention. The incident took place in Silivri Selimpaşa and spread over a wide area.
The fire grew rapidly due to the wind and as it was advancing towards residential areas, air support was provided. The firefighting helicopter intervened in the fire from land and air by pouring water from Büyükçekmece Lake onto the flames.
It was stated that a shed was destroyed during the fire, but the fire was taken under control before it spread to the factory in the region. Fire crews at the scene were affected by smoke and were intervened by ambulances.
Deputy Mayor of Büyükçekmece Municipality Murat Erçağ made a statement regarding the fire, saying, “A fire of unknown cause spread to a wide area due to the effect of the wind. We intervened quickly with firefighting teams and our municipality’s equipment. There was no loss of life or property as a result of the fire. We thank the teams.”
Although the cause of the fire has not yet been determined, it was stated that between 50 and 100 years of dry grass were damaged. It was announced that there was no loss in crops.
