A tragic incident near the Slovakian capital Bratislava resulted in the deaths of six people and the injuries of five others when a Czech Railways international train collided with an Arriva bus travelling from Prague to Budapest.
The accident occurred near the town of Nove Zamky. Bus and train drivers were also injured. All those killed were passengers of the Arriva bus that collided with the train.
Search and rescue officials warned that death could rise. There were about 200 people on the train and nine on the bus at the time of the accident.
Arriva officials said the bus driver had more than 30 years of experience. While the details of the accident were being investigated, it was suggested that the lights and barriers were damaged by the storm. However, these claims have not yet been officially confirmed.
Slovak Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok said on social media: “A little carelessness can change life forever in an instant. This tragic incident reminds us once again of the importance we attach to security.”
Katarina Molnarova, one of the witnesses of the accident, stated that she felt the severity of the collision as she was leaving the train station and saw the train engulfed in flames. He stated that there was no panic and the passengers left the train calmly.
