A commemoration ceremony was held at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) for Yaşar Yakış, who served as the first Minister of Foreign Affairs of the AK Party and died at the age of 85. Yakış was expelled from the AK Party, which he founded, in 2016 due to his criticisms of his party.

After the ceremony, Yakış’s family accepted their condolences.
Yaşar Yakış, a former diplomat, entered politics as one of the founding members of the AK Party. Yakış, who was elected as a member of parliament from the general elections in Düzce on 3 November 2002, was appointed as the Minister of Foreign Affairs on 18 November 2002 and served in this position until 14 March 2003. In the subsequent change of government, he handed over his duty to Abdullah Gül.
Yaşar Yakış attracted attention with his criticisms towards his party and as a result, he was expelled from the AK Party, which he founded, on March 28, 2016.
