In a statement made by the Prime Ministry Press Office, it was responded to the statements of Itamar Ben-Gvir, known for his anti-Palestinian stance, regarding the Al-Aqsa Mosque. In his speech to the occupying Israeli Parliament, Ben-Gvir had used expressions such as “allowing Jews to worship in the Al-Aqsa Mosque.”
The statement emphasized that the status of the Al-Aqsa Mosque has not and will not change. It was stated that the current status quo of the Haram al-Sharif will be preserved. Ben-Gvir openly expressed his ambitions for the Al-Aqsa Mosque and advocates for a change in the status quo.
Jordan’s role in the status of the Al-Aqsa Mosque was also explained. Jordan is considered the country responsible for religious affairs in Jerusalem and is held responsible for the protection of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. The Wadi Al-A’ara Agreement signed with Israel in 1994 and the agreement signed between Jordanian King Abdullah II and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in 2013 provide for the protection of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and Jordan’s right to guardianship.
It is stated that the Jews who entered the Al-Aqsa Mosque under police escort within the framework of Israel’s unilateral decision violated the sovereignty of the Jerusalem Islamic Endowments Authority. The occupying Israeli administration claims that the status quo, where only Muslims can worship and members of other religions can visit, is being maintained.
However, images of fanatic Jewish occupiers praying and performing religious rituals during their raids on the Al-Aqsa Mosque under the protection of the Israeli police are frequently reflected in the media.
