Details of the incident
The incident occurred at around 17:20 today in a 48-year-old, 3-storey building on Şair Baki Street in the Altıntepsi Neighborhood of Istanbul. The balcony on the 32nd floor collapsed with a loud noise, while the balcony section of the lower floor was also damaged. Police, fire department, AFAD and municipality teams were dispatched to the scene upon notification of the situation. Those in the building were evacuated as a precaution.
Statement from the Building Owner
The building owner Aytaç Uçar stated that the building was built in 1976 and made the following comments about the incident: “We were sitting and all of a sudden the back balcony collapsed. I would like to state that the building was built in 1976. They came to the building during the earthquake, examined it and stated that there was no problem. However, these incidents occurred after the construction was completed. We observed that there was a difference of 6-7 bars in the foundation. “The building next door. Unfortunately, the teams from the municipality did not intervene sufficiently. All they did was plaster it. Apart from the collapse of a balcony and the damage on the lower floor, we did not observe any other problems.”
