Activity Continues at Mount Etna
Mount Etna, located in southern Italy, continues to spew ash and lava. Although the recent volcanic eruptions intensified on July 4-5, the volcano, which calmed down yesterday, became active again this morning. The ash that Etna spewed covered the surrounding roads and settlements such as Zafferana Etnea, Acireale and Giarre with ash.
According to information shared by the Italian National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), it was stated that new explosions occurred in the “Voragine” crater and lava flows continued in high areas. It was stated that the height of the ash spewed by Etna reached up to 5 kilometers.
Some news sources reported that a “red” warning was issued for planes passing through the region due to the ash cloud, but that air traffic was not affected for now.
Stromboli Volcano Continues Low Intensity Eruptions
Stromboli, one of Italy’s other active volcanoes, is also experiencing activity. Volcanic activity continues, albeit at a lower intensity than on July 5. It was stated that the “red” alert status continues.
Volcano | Height | Feature |
