A total of 180 prisoner exchanges were carried out between Russia and Ukraine under the mediation of the United Arab Emirates. While the war between the two countries continued, negotiations for the exchange of prisoners yielded results.
In the statement made by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was stated that 90 Russian soldiers who were captured by the Ukrainian side were taken back. The statement said, “As a result of the negotiations, 90 Russian military personnel with life-threatening conditions were sent back from the territory under the control of the Kiev regime. In return, 90 Ukrainian prisoners of war were handed over to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.”
It was stated that the treatment and rehabilitation processes started after the transfer of the taken back Russian soldiers. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy, in his statement, said, “Today, 90 more of our people under Russian captivity returned to their homes,” and thanked the UAE for acting as a mediator.
